The story of Bole and Branches is one that is crafted out of love and passion for working with wood. The founder, Stephen Cummins, and his friend, Corey were designing and creating wooden artesian handles for knives. As people began to see their work they began to get requests to design and sell their knives as gifts. Stephen heard there was going to be a woodworking show at the Tampa Fairgrounds so he went to check it out. This show had everything you would need for woodworking, with cutting-edge demonstrations of machinery, tools, and other products. While at the show, Stephen saw the Wood Mizer Portable Sawmill in action and dreamed of turning his woodworking hobby into a real business.
Stephen and his family had moved to Crystal River to launch a church so it was a busy time to try and launch a new business...until the world shut down with COVID. Since we were all encouraged to stay home, Stephen decided to look into buying some lumber to build the sheds and storage units that he and his wife had talked about adding to their property. But he quickly found that the rising cost of lumber would far exceed the budget they had put together the previous year. While conversing with a friend who owned a tree-clearing business, Stephen learned that his buddy would often burn the trees on the spot or haul them off to the dump. A light bulb went off in Stephen's head as he remembered the portable sawmill he had seen in Tampa the previous year. He realized if he could buy a sawmill and help his buddy out by picking up the unneeded wood, he could save money on his building projects as well as launch a sustainable business to sell wood.

When you think about how wood has typically been harvested,
you may think of forests that are being clearcut to make way for human
expansion. Well at Bole & Branches, we are just the opposite in our
harvesting practices. We are able to collect wood, that’s been storm damaged, struck by lightning, fallen down or cleared from a lot for someone to build a home and salvage the material and turn it into something beautiful. As a local sustainable company that only salvages wood that would otherwise be destroyed, we make beautiful kiln dried Live Edge slabs that can become an heirloom piece.
